You can’t beat the price! The Drake Document Manager (DM) is included free of charge with the purchase of the Drake Tax Software. In its most simplistic form, you can use the Drake DM as a repository to directly print your tax returns and store them. However, you also have the ability to set up a folder structure to store any other files.

From the June 2009 Review of Document Storage Systems

USER INTERFACE:
You can access the system as a button in the tax software toolbar or you can proceed directly to the DM application. The interface consists of a toolbar of 15 buttons along the top and a folder structure along the left side of the screen. Some of the tools include the following: create new folder; file, scan or import a document/file; e-mail a file; etc. All of this is basic functionality that helps you manage and work with your files efficiently. An “action log” is recorded to document activity with the files.

FILE ORGANIZATION/MANAGEMENT:
The file structure is based on a pre-defined folder list representing each letter of the alphabet. Within the letter folders, you will have each client listed. Each client has a default tax folder with a subfolder for each tax year. You have the ability to add or modify the folder structure for each client independently. In addition to storing files directly in DM, you can create a link to a file within a folder, which will open the file from within the DM.

INTEGRATION:
The key integration is between the Drake Tax Software and the Drake DM. When you print the tax return, it goes directly to the proper folder for the current tax year for the client. You also have direct integration with the Drake Tax Planner. In addition, a generic PDF print driver is provided that allows you to convert reports and documents from any application into a PDF format for storage in Drake’s DM.
